Wonder why the Europeans seem to be less violent, easy to get along with, and more rational than we are? Maybe, because they have more time to enjoy life, family and friends. I propose that we adopt a more European way of thinking with regards to work and lifestyle in Washington. Features of my legislative plan include: * 30 day paid vacation at full wage of any employee full-time or part-time for all occupations after one year of service. Vacation time may be taken all at one time. This does not include federal or state holidays. Workers will be rested and eager to return to work than those who are constantly harnessed. *30 hour work week as full-time employment with benefits. * Employer tax incentives to offset costs of vacation program. * Develop and implement programs to train employers to process and manage their businesses and operations with greater flexibility for greater productivity. * Mandate prohibition of employers from forcing part-time employment on employees to evade paying benefits or for other reasons. If Wal-Mart gets mad and leaves the state, so be it. We can live without them but they can't survive without markets. |
